The Branthachalam Temple

The Branthachalam Temple

Branthachalam Temple, the chief dwelling place of Naranath, the mad is located two kilometers west to Rayiranelloor Mountain. It is a huge sized rock of more than 40 feet height in an area of three acres. On reaching this gigantic rock itself we can see sixty three steps carved on it. Standing on the rock we could clearly enjoy the charm and beauty of the nature arrant. On the top of Branthachalam, we can see the temples of Shiva and Devi. Beside the shrine of Lord Shiva, we could see one Kanjira tree and a chain on it. Naranath, the mad was chained on this tree and he was called mad by the common people. He too enshrined in this temple. Branthachalam is blessed with too many holy water sources. All the holy water ponds here are believed to be built by Naranath, the mad in a single night. Even in high summer, these ponds will not get dried. The three caves like rooms carved on the black rock too are believed to be built by Naranath, the mad.
